Jet2holidays stops selling Tenerife hotel struck by coronavirus

Sunday, 25 Feb, 2020 0

Jet2 has stopped selling a hotel in Tenerife which has been put into lockdown after a guest was found to be suffering from coronavirus.

Some 1,000 holidaymakers, including guests from Briton, are trapped in the hotel, having been told to stay quarantined in their rooms.

Jet2, one of a number of UK operators to feature the H10 Costa Adeje in the south of the island, said it’s suspended reservations for the hotel and clients already booked will be transferred to other properties.

A spokesperson said: "We are aware of reports that a non-Jet2holidays customer staying at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace in Tenerife has tested positive for coronavirus. Under the advice of the Regional and the Spanish Government Authorities, the hotel has been placed under quarantine.

"We have stopped all sales to the hotel, and customers who are due to travel to the hotel will be transferred to other accommodation. In line with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office advice, our flying programme remains unchanged.

"The health and safety of our customers is our absolute priority, and we will continue to release more information as it becomes available."

TUI, which also has guests clients stuck in the Costa Adeje said: "All guests have been asked to remain in their rooms and are being looked after by the hotel. Our holiday programme to Tenerife continue to operate as planned for all other hotels. We will provide a further update as soon as we have more information."

The hotel was placed in quarantine early today after an Italian doctor who had been a guest at the Costa Adeje for seven days was tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) after he went to a private clinic with flu-like symptoms. His wife has since also tested positive.

While other hotel guests have been told to remain in their rooms, media reports suggest some were allowed out for breakfast this morning.

The beach area at the back of the hotel has also been cordoned off, and ocal and national police have been guarding the main road entrance to the hotel, which is sealed off by barriers.

One guest posted a picture of a padlock on a door of the hotel, with a police vehicle parked outside to enforce the quarantine.
