JetBlue is the latest airline to add service to Cuban capital Havana.
New England gets its first direct link to Cuba with Saturday flights from Boston beginning November 10.
The new service was expected after new slots became available following the downsizing or complete retreat of some carriers from the market after the first initial wave of flight approvals.
The U.S. Department of Transportation tentatively approved the route and seats will go on sale in the coming weeks.
At the same time, JetBlue will expand service to Cuba from south Florida with up to three daily flights between focus city Fort Lauderdale and Havana on Sundays through Fridays starting on November 11.
"As the first airline to operate commercial service between the US and Cuba in more than 50 years, we are proud to announce another JetBlue first by offering the only nonstop service between New England and Havana," said Marty St. George, executive vice president commercial and planning, JetBlue.
"Between the Boston service and the additional frequency between south Florida and Havana, we are cementing our position as a top choice for travel to Cuba."
JetBlue also announced two new daily nonstop flights to Mexico City from Boston and New York’s JFK Airport, thanks to slots becoming available to ensure healthy competition as directed by the US Department of Transportation.
"We thank the DOT for requiring slot divesture at Mexico City so as to foster more choices for the traveling public," said James Hnat, EVP and general counsel for JetBlue.
"More than ever, it is crucially important that federal regulators continue to address competition concerns at slot-restricted airports."
