JetBlue inks sustainable aviation fuel deal with Shell
JetBlue has joined hands with Shell Aviation in a new collaboration for sustainable aviation fuel supply.
The airline is targeting delivery in the first half of 2023 for its operations at Los Angeles International Airport.
JetBlue is expected to take delivery of 10,000,000 gallons of blended SAF at LAX over the next two years.
There is also an option to purchase up to 5,000,000 gallons more in the third year.
“This deal with Shell is a key signal of the growing engagement to begin converting conventional jet fuel to SAF,” said CEO Robin Hayes.
Shell has announced its ambition to have 10% of its aviation jet fuel sales as SAF by 2030.
JetBlue and Shell will also work to offer corporate customers additional ways to reduce emissions associated with their flying.
It includes a blockchain-powered digital SAF book-and-claim solution for business travel.
The additional SAF at LAX will increase JetBlue sustainable aviation fuel supply at the airport to approximately 15% of total jet fuel uptake.
JetBlue also regularly flies on SAF out of San Francisco.
