JetBlue offers change fee, cancellation waivers on all routes

Tuesday, 27 Feb, 2020 0

JetBlue Airways is suspending its normal change and cancellation fee policy right across its network in response to growing coronavirus fears.

It won’t charge fees on changes to new bookings made from February 27 to March 11.

Waivers apply to travel until June 1, 2020, the airline said.

Refunds will be in the form of a credit for a future flight and customers may still have to pay a fare difference for flight changes.

It also includes the flight segments in JetBlue Vacations packages.

The airline doesn’t fly to Asia or Europe yet, and none of its routes are under any travel restrictions.

"While authorities have not issued any travel restrictions to the locations we fly, we want to give our customers some peace of mind that we are ready to support them should the situation change," said Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer for JetBlue.

It could yet change.

Health officials at the CDC have warned ‘community spread’ of the virus across the US is almost inevitable.

"We’ve seen from the recent countries that have had community spread, when it’s hit in those countries it has moved quite rapidly, so we want to make sure that the American public is prepared. It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen in this country anymore but a question of when this will happen," said Nancy Messonnier, director of CDC’s Center for Immunization.
