JetBlue orders all flyers to mask up
JetBlue Airways will require that all passengers wear a face covering while flying starting next week.
It becomes the first major US airline to mandate face coverings for passengers.
It comes just days after it announced all crew members must wear face masks on all flights.
"This is the new flying etiquette. Onboard, cabin air is well circulated and cleaned through filters every few minutes but this is a shared space where we have to be considerate of others," said JetBlue COO, Joanna Geraghty.
"Wearing a face covering isn’t about protecting yourself it’s about protecting those around you,"
Face masks or coverings must be worn during check-in, boarding, during flight and deplaning, and cover the mouth and nose.
It says small children are exempt.
In addition, a few rows next to jump seats will be blocked off to maintain a buffer zone between passengers and crew.
United and Frontier Airlines also require their crew members to wear face coverings while American Airlines is providing face masks for passengers, although wearing them is not compulsory.
