Low cost carrier Jetstar plans to wing its way to the Cook Islands from next year.
The new thrice weekly service to Rarotonga will begin on March 22, 2016, departing Auckland on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
"We’re very excited to announce our first direct service from New Zealand to the beautiful South Pacific," said Jetstar NZ head Grant Kerr.
Graeme West, general manager of Cook Islands Tourism warmly welcoming the extra airlift, which he said would add an extra 15% capacity.
"Tourism contributes 60% of GDP in the Cook Islands so the new services will provide a major boost to the country’s economy," West said.
Jetstar will offer introductory fares on the route starting at $129 from Auckland.
