Jetstar sued over Covid refunds
Jetstar is now facing legal action over its failure to pay refunds to customers with cancelled flights during the pandemic.
The class action lawsuit alleges it failed to refund hundreds of thousands of customers.
The airline handed out vouchers and held on to the funds to the detriment of their customers, it says.
Echo Law filed the case in federal court on behalf of potentially hundreds of thousands of customers.
Jetstar was required by law to issue refunds, it states.
Instead travel credits were issued of ‘much lower value to customers than the refunds to which customers were entitled.’
The law firm said Jetstar customers were pushed into accepting travel credits.
“Many Jetstar customers ended up paying the airline more than their original booking to use their credits on new fares, as they were led to believe they had little choice.”
The lawsuit argues the airline breached its contract, and ‘misled customers.’
“It now needs to be held accountable and refund that money with interest.”
Customers with tickets for a flight cancelled between January 1, 2020, and November 1, 2022, could be eligible to join the class action.
