Jetstar to spread its wings
Jetstar is expected to launch its first international flight next week after it obtained full regulatory approval to fly overseas.
Its first trans-Tasman flight from Christchurch in New Zealand will be on Thursday.
The budget carrier will base two Airbus A320 aircraft at Christchurch, with flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. There are no plans for services to Adelaide. I6t is expected up to 100 jobs will be created as a result.
Jetstar chief executive Alan Joyce said Jetstar had also been issued with both a Foreign Air Operator Certificate by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority and Scheduled International Air Service Licence by the New Zealand Ministry of Transport, completing the regulatory approval process.
“Over past months Jetstar has applied for and has been successful in keeping ahead of its own timeline to achieve full regulatory approval to commence our first international services,” Mr Joyce said.
“The success in achieving full regulatory sign-off well ahead of first operational flights from December 1 follows a vibrant period of commercial activity by Jetstar.”
Stand by for a cut price war with Freedom Air and Pacific Blue under pressure to maintain loadings and Jetstar aggressively chasing share.
