Kansas Tourism Assembles Drive Tour Itineraries

The Kansas Travel & Tourism Division announced a new program of driving tours called Kansas Ready Made Adventures, highlighting all the state has to offer. The five day Historic Kansas Ready Made Adventure,visits destinations associated with the lead up to the Civil War, the war itself, the Santa Fe Trail and the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site.

The Outdoor Kansas Ready Made Adventure visits five locations with nature based experiences such as bird watching at the largest marsh in the interior of the United States, 67 miles of underground, mined salt caverns, and a 2,250 acre wildlife refuge boasting more than 100 species of birds, elk and other wildlife, as well as the states largest buffalo herd.

The Sporting Kansas Ready-Made Adventure visits the Kansas Speedway and the world s fastest 1.5 mile drag race track at Heartland Park, Topeka. Sports enthusiasts can continue their trip by visiting Wichita, where they can catch a Wichita Wranglers game at the countrys eighth oldest baseball stadium then view tributes to Barry Sanders, Wilt Chamberlain, Glenn Cunningham, and Bill Snyder at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

The Lewis & Clark Ready Made Adventure visits Leavenworth, the first city in Kansas and a stop on the Lewis & Clark expedition, and the Glacial Hills Scenic Byway, designated by the National Park Service as the official route of the Lewis & Clark Historic Trail.

The Quirky Kansas Ready Made Adventure includes sights such as the worlds largest ball of twine in Cawker City, the worlds most comprehensive collection of air moving devices at the Fan Museum in Andover, as well as the worlds largest hand-dug well and the worlds largest pallasite meteorite, both in Greensburg. It also visits the Grassroots Arts Center, home of more than 20 examples of unique self-taught, outsider art, as well as the Garden of Eden in Lucas, a world renowned site of grassroots sculpture and architecture.

The Family Fun and Frolic Ready Made Adventure includes the Museum or World Treasures in Wichita, the largest collection of Russian space artifacts outside of Moscow at the Smithsonianaffiliated Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, and a night in an animal-themed safari room at Hedrick’s Bed & Breakfast in Nickerson.
