Kazakhstan eases visa policy to boost tourist arrivals

Friday, 6 January 20173 min read
Central Asia nation Kazakhstan has relaxed its visa policy aiming to promote tourism and investment opportunities.
Since the beginning of the month citizens of the EU and OECD countries, Malaysia, Monaco, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore can now visit visa-free for up to 30 days.
"The policy is designed to promote an even more favourable investment climate in Kazakhstan and develop the country’s tourism potential," a ministry statement said.
For other nationals, the visa process will be streamlined.
"The paperwork required by other citizens to obtain a visa for Kazakhstan will be reduced," it said.
The new relaxed rules come ahead of the staging of World Expo 2017, which is being hosted in capital Astana in the summer.
Tourism has also taken on a higher significance since revenues have dropped in the oil-rich nation due to the falling price of oil.
Up to five million foreign and domestic visits are expected during the 90-day event.
