Kentucky motel to pay $2 million after guest dies
A Kentucky motel has been ordered to pay over $2 million for the death of an elderly man at the property.
Alex Chronis 76, took a shower at the Econo Lodge in Erlanger, Kentucky in 2021.
The water temperature reached at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit, which led to his eventual death a few months later.
He received second- and third-degree burns and spent moths in hospital receiving skin grafts.
“He had to go through skin grafting because he had deep tissue burns from the scalding temperature,” said the family’s attorney, Jeffrey Blankenship.
The court earlier this month awarded Chronis’ estate $1,2 million for medical expenses, $16,000 for funeral expenses, $250,000 for pain and suffering, and half a million dollars in punitive damages. The defense was given 30 days to file an appeal.
The defense has claimed Chronis wasn’t actually staying at the Kentucky motel. His nephew was a registered guest.
