Killing US Air softly in Pittsburgh

Saturday, 06 Jan, 2005 0

Southwest Airlines announced it was adding the so-called “Steel City” as its newest destination was generally regarded as “the long-predicted kill shot finishing off US Airways,” said the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pittsburgh lost its hub status for US Airways last year. US Airways has traditionally been its dominant carrier.

Adding to US problems: Southwest recently moved into US’s other main hub, Philadelphia, one of its most lucrative markets.

Southwest’s Pittsburgh service is scheduled to start in May. No routes or fares have yet to be announced.
