Klook research: Asia airport to city travel times ranked
Tours and activities platform Klook has shone a light on one of the most frustrating aspects of the travel experience – the time it takes to get from the airport to the city.
Research by Klook has revealed exactly how long the transfer time is on average for 20 major cities in Asia.
It found Cambodia’s Siem Reap is the most efficient at just 26 minutes on average.
Tokyo Narita was bottom of the rankings with a time-consuming 100 minutes, thanks to its long distance from the city.
Based on an efficiency factor of time versus distance, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong were among the most seamless, with journeys averaging less than one minute per km, thanks to their expres rail systems and other transport options.
Mobile tickets and QR code scanners also speeded up travel in these and other cities including Taipei and Bangkok.
The research found short distances doesn’t always translate into shorter travel times.
Ho Chi Minh City, Cebu and Bali airports all fared badly with times of at least one hour even though they are less than 15 km away.
The study confirmed the common perception that travel in famously gridlocked cities like Bangkok and Manila requires patience.
Bangkok, Manila, Bali and Cebu had the slowest rates, with an average 5 minutes spent per km travelled.
Aside from thousands of tours and attractions, Klook also offers airport transfers, rail passes, bus travel and private drivers.
