Korean market back on track
A new report shows Australia is achieving strong results from the Korean tourism market.
The final report of an implementation group for the the Korean Action Plan found the number of international visitors to Australia from South Korea increased to 250,000 – a rise of 18.2 percent – in 2005.
“Action Plan Korea: Building the Framework for Sustainable Inbound Tourism” was launched in 2005 and the implementation group consulted industry and studied detailed market intelligence and Tourism Australia marketing activities.
“What this report shows is the Korean market is back on track and delivering results for Australia,” Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said.
“Korea is currently our sixth largest tourism market and competition is fierce. Australia is working hard to maintain and grow its market share and to ensure the Australian tourism industry captures the attention of Korean tourists.”
Ms Bailey said the success with Korea also pointed the way for another key North Asian market, Japan.
“Japanese tourism has slumped in recent times, prompting the Government to launch the Action Plan for Japanese Tourism earlier this year to reinvigorate this key market,” she said
