Los Angeles International Airport is promising speedier security checks thanks to the installation of Automated Screening Lanes.
It means five travelers can load their trays at the same time and then trays are automatically fed by a conveyor system to each position.
The final two of 14 lanes are now in place at the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
Trevor Daley, the airport’s deputy executive director for external affairs, said the lanes can increase the number of passengers screened by as much as 30% over the old screening lanes.
"Because there are five individual stations where travelers can place their items in trays, people who have fewer items for screening can move through faster while guests who need a little more time do not feel as rushed," he explained.
LAX now has 27 ASLs in operation, with the technology also offered at Terminals 2, 4 and 7.
Three more lanes are expected to open in Terminal 3 later this year.
