Legionnaire’s disease cases linked to Disneyland up to 11
Two more cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported in people who recently visited Disneyland in Anaheim.
The Orange County Health Care Agency confirmed three new cases, including one person who has not visited the park, taking the total count to 15.
Disneyland shut down two cooling towers after several cases of Legionnaire’s disease were linked to visits to the theme park.
That now adds up to 11 confirmed cases in people who visited the park in in September, plus an additional four who live or traveled in Anaheim, OCHCA said.
Disneyland was informed of the outbreak on October 27 and discovered Legionella bacteria after testing the water towers found.
"We learned from the Orange County Health Care Agency of increased Legionnaires’ disease cases in Anaheim. We conducted a review and learned that two cooling towers had elevated levels of Legionella bacteria. These towers were treated with chemicals that destroy the bacteria and are currently shut down," the company said.
Park officials said a test of water samples taken after disinfecting the water towers showed no further trace of Legionella bacteria.
