Life Resort breaks ground on the Binh Thuan Coast
Vietnam Life Resorts, the innovative developer of culturally sympathetic spa properties, will joint venture with Vietnamese developer Bien Xanh Co. Ltd. on a third franchise, the Life Wellness Resort Phan Thiet. The first spade of dirt was turned during a ceremony held Sept. 6. A grand opening is scheduled for early 2008.
Like its existing properties in Hoi An and Quy Nhon, the Phan Thiet project will reflect Life Resorts philosophy of creating affordable resorts in harmony with the local environment and culture.
The Life Wellness Resort Phan Thiet was initiated by Bien Xanh Co., which then chose Life Resorts as its partner in the venture. Bien Xanh, owners of the Blue Ocean property now under development in nearby Mui Ne, has also awarded Life Resorts the contract to theme and manage the Life Wellness Resort Phan Thiet.
Life Resorts ambitious expansion plans proceed apace with Septembers groundbreaking in Phan Thiet, attended by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Bich, chairman of Bien Xanh, and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tuan, vice chairman of Bien Xanh. These plans will continue in the coming years with new Life Resorts planned for Ha Long Bay (opening late 2007), Ninh Binh and Sapa (early 2008).
As a rapidly expanding company with strong commitments to a quality tourism experience, we always select our joint venture partners as well as our development locations very, very carefully, said Chris Duffy, general director of the Life Resorts Management Company. Bien Xanh has a vision for Phan Thiet for both short- and long-term development and investment. We feel that in Phan Thiet we have found the perfect location, and in Bien Xanh Company the perfect partner. All indicators are right for a very successful venture.
Set on 4.6 hectares of pristine ocean-front terrain, the Life Wellness Resort Phan Thiet will feature 60 Asian Suites (the propertys standard resort guestrooms) in addition to 30 deluxe bungalows and 15 exclusive villas, each with a private swimming pool. Facilities will include Life Resorts trademark spa and wellness offerings, tennis court, two swimming pools, two restaurants, beach bar and other sports facilities that take optimum advantage of the resorts seaside location.
The architectural design and interior decors, initiated by Bien Xanh Co., pay homage to the languid beach culture of Phan Thiet and Binh Thuan province, with its undisturbed shoreline (still shaded by coconut palms) and bounded to the north by the famed red-and-white dunes of Mui Ne.
One hundred and twenty kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City, this is the most dependably sunny region in Vietnam and home to a host of attractions: the worlds second longest recumbent Buddha on Ta Cu Mountain; the haunting 8th Century Cham towers at Po Shanu; the Van Thuy Tu Temple sheltering a 70-foot-long skeleton of a fin whale, known as Mr. Whale to locals.
Life Resorts are pointedly developed to celebrate the cultures they inhabit, Duffy added, which stands in stark contrast to the cookie-cutter approach of most spa developers. This sets us apart. Life Wellness Resort Phan Thiet will not open for more than a year, but our marketing activities will begin almost immediately, commencing with wide international exposure at Novembers World Trade Market in London.
Life Resorts currently manages two other properties in Vietnam. Inspired by Cham architecture, the 63-room Life Wellness Resort Quy Nhon is a hideaway boutique retreat on the south central coast where a 3,000-square-meter landscaped garden overlooks a curvaceous coastline, outdoor spa bungalows and an exquisite stretch of private beach. The 94-room Life Heritage Resort Hoi An evokes the colonial splendor of a bygone era on a quiet stretch of the Thu Bon River, within walking distance of the old trading ports world-famous downtown.
In July, the Life Wellness Resort Quy Nhon was nominated as a finalist for Best Destination Spa by the 2006 SpaAsia Crystal Awards (www.spaasia.com/awards). Quy Nhon was the only nominee from Vietnam; the other seven nominees included a Hilton in China, the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong and the Chiva-Som in Thailand.
Were thrilled that our very affordable wellness resort can keep company with these high-end properties, said Duffy. We take extraordinary care to produce an upscale, total immersion spa for less than US$100 a night. It would be easy to create this standard of elegance and charge three or four times that sum. Meeting that standard and making a week-long stay affordable for the typical middle-class traveler is the genius of the Life Resorts philosophy.
