Lionsgate movie theme park coming to South Korea
South Korea’s holiday hotspot Jeju Island will be home to the country’s first international branded theme park.
Landing Jeju Development Co., Ltd has confirmed a deal with movie studio Lionsgate to develop Lionsgate Movie World at Jeju Shinhwa World.
It will become Lionsgate’s first standalone outdoor theme park.
The project will be built around seven movie zones, each featuring a Lionsgate made blockbuster movie including The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga, Now You See Me and the upcoming Robin Hood movie.
Construction begins next year for an expected 2019 opening.
"We are very excited to have the first Lionsgate Movie World at Jeju Shinhwa World bringing Hollywood movies and their immersive environments to our theme park to deliver a premium guest experience," said Yang Zhihui, chairman and executive director of Landing International Development Limited.
The park will have state-of-the-art rides, attractions and 4D technology, along with themed restaurants and entertainment.
"We’re pleased to partner with our friends at Landing International, one of Asia’s premier developers, on our first branded outdoor theme park and one of our largest and most exciting location-based entertainment destinations," said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.
Shinhwa World integrated resort is opening in phases and will feature branded resort hotels from Four Seasons, Marriott and Somerset.
There will also be a waterpark, a casino and a K-pop entertainment arena.
