London cable car to close for maintenance

Friday, 8 March 20133 min read

London’s tourist attraction and commuter service, the Emirates Air Line, will close next week for essential maintenance work.

The cable car is to close from March 18 to 24 as engineers weight test each of the 34 cabins and fully inspect the sheave wheels that the cable passes through.

"The Emirates Air Line has already carried over 1.9 million passengers and customer satisfaction with the service is very high," said Transport for London’s head of the Emirates Air Line Danny Price.

He said there will not be any other planned closures this year

"We apologise to anyone affected and have tried to ensure it is taking place at a time when it will cause the least disruption," he added.

The nearest alternative public transport is North Greenwich Tube station on the south side of the Emirates Air Line served by the Jubilee line and Royal Victoria DLR station on the north side of the scheme.
