London City Airport enhances check-in
London City Airport is introducing self-service check-in kiosks as part of a revamp.
Work due to be completed in May will see 12 kiosks available for passengers to check themselves in for flights with airlines including VLM, KLM and Swiss.
The departure lounge is being reconfigured to incorporate 250 additional seats, an enhanced retail offering with WH Smith and Nuance, and a new lounge featuring high-speed internet points and live sports screens.
Complimentary wireless internet access will be available for all passengers. A new bar is also due to open at the end of May.
The enhancements are timed to coincide with the planned opening of new parking stands to handle up to four additional aircraft to complement 14 existing parking stands.
The £30 million project, the largest since the airport opened 21 years ago, was started last summer to help with increased numbers of flights, including new services by British Airways, Lufthansa, SAS and Austrian Airlines.
Further gate lounges will be added with access directly from the airport’s departure lounge.
Customer services and security general manager Melanie Burnley said: “The majority of passengers at London City Airport are frequent fliers who will appreciate the timesaving that the technology offers.
“By speeding-up the overall time spent at the airport, business travellers are able to commute with further ease to their final destination.â€
