London Southend Airport up for sale

London Southend Airport up for sale

Friday, 21 Jun, 2023 0

The cash-strapped owner of London Southend Airport has put it up for sale.

Esken is seeking a buyer for the airport as well as its renewables business.

This is despite a £50 million borrowing facility last year to keep its businesses afloat.

“The interests of all stakeholders would be best served by seeking a new owner for each of the core businesses,” it said.

Esken shares sank 25% and is down by two-thirds over the past year.

Southend Airport only recently signed a new agreement with easyJet to boost flights.

This includes a new Amsterdam route.

It also flies to Malaga, Palma and Faro.

The airport only reopened last summer after a long pandemic closure.

Airport revenues were £25.5 million.

Esken bought the airport for £21 million in 2008.
