London targets Chinese market
London tourism chiefs have earmarked China as the “most significant growth opportunity on the planet” as it kicked off a major initiative to attract Chinese travellers to the UK.
A team from the capital has begun a week-long London Experience event in Beijing which is highlighting London’s contemporary and traditional attractions through art displays, film and live actors.
It came as London and Beijing signed a partnership to formally build links between the two cities.
Visit London chief executive James Bidwell said: “London’s presence in Beijing has been well received and demonstrates Chinese appetite for our city as the leading destination to do business, study and of course visit as a tourist.
“With a forecasted 100 million outbound tourists from China by 2020, Visit London’s focus on this key market will ensure that London is high on the desired list for potential travellers.”
Tourism chiefs are holding talks with Beijing officials, travel trade and airlines to continue to develop London’s profile.
