Macau gaming revenues fire up
MACAU – Revenues for Macau’s gaming operators continue to hit the jackpot, up 62 per cent in the first quarter of 2008, figures from the government show.
That is now more than the Las Vegas Strip and Atlantic City combined, at 29.82 billion patacas (US$3.72 billion).
Destination Macau said Crown Macau appears to be the biggest beneficiary, as its market share has more than tripled – to 18 per cent by the end of March – in just three months, thanks to a deal it struck in December with Hong Kong-listed AMA, its partner in VIP gaming promotions, based on a higher-than-average commission on turnover.
The latest market-share figures show Stanley Ho’s SJM casino group still slightly ahead of Las Vegas Sands, which has the two biggest casinos in Macau (Venetian and Sands), at 24 per cent and 23 per cent, respectively.
Crown is third, followed by Wynn Macau (16 per cent), Galaxy (10 per cent) and MGM (8 per cent).
The Galaxy Entertainment Group remains neck-and-neck with Wynn Macau as the most efficient casino operator in the city, according to its full-year results for 2007, which were announced last week.
The group’s VIP win-per-table-per-day (WTD) figure of HK$329,000, recorded in the fourth quarter of 2007, was only slightly behind Wynn’s HK$335,000.
On the mass gaming floor, it was HK$33,000 to Wynn’s HK$40,000.
