Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas has finally set sail a day late from Port Canaveral after a routine inspection uncovered several safety flaws.
The ship was held at the port after a check by the US Coast Guard found some ‘technical issues.’
Those issues are still unclear, other than ‘some lifejackets that were showing their age,’ according to Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez.
They were replaced Tuesday and the other unspecified issues were cleared up as the ship sailed nearly 24 hours behind schedule.
"We did do an inspection of the lifesaving equipment and found safety concerns. Ultimately, they failed the inspection," said USCG officer Ryan Dickinson,
The ship was on a four-night sailing to Coco Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas and will be cut short by a day.
According to passengers posting on social media the line has offered a 25% refund and an additional 25% credit for a future cruise.
