Malaysia Airlines ends ban on check-in luggage for Europe flights
Malaysia Airlines has reversed its decision to ban passengers from checking in luggage on flights to Europe.
Earlier this week, it said it was unable to carry any luggage in the cargo hold on flights to London, Paris and Amsterdam because it was ‘currently operating a long route to Europe’.
It claimed this, combined with ‘unseasonably strong headwinds’, was limiting its ability to carry luggage.
The decision was met with anger and protest from passengers on social media and Malaysia Airlines has now confirmed that normal check-in allowances apply again to all three destinations.
"Based on its current risk assessment, done on a daily basis, the airline is now able to take a shorter route on European flights," it said.
"Malaysia Airlines maintains that safety is of utmost priority in its operations and will not hesitate to adjust its flight path based on its daily risk assessment."
But some passengers who were affected by the temporary ban are still complaining that their luggage was delayed.
Malaysia Airlines apologised to the affected customers on Facebook, saying: "Malaysia Airlines regrets the inconvenience caused due to the recent limitation imposed on checked in baggage on its flights.
"The airline is currently working hard to ensure that all stranded baggage be delivered to passengers. We have sent over the baggage to the destination and you will receive them soon."
