Malaysia Airlines’ current chief operating officer will be elevated to the role of CEO when Christoph Mueller leaves on July 1.
Peter Bellew will ‘ensure continuity and further progress of the overall restructuring effort’ said sole shareholder state investment agency Khazanah Nasional.
Former Ryanair executive Bellew takes over from Mueller who is leaving for ‘personal reasons’ and has been a member of the MAB senior management team since it was relaunched in September 2015.
Mueller was brought in as a turnaround specialist to restructure the airline following two air tragedies which took it to the brink of bankruptcy.
Mueller officially ends his tenure in September but has now gone on leave and will be available to ensure a smooth transition, Khazanah said.
