Malaysia’s immigration department has hit back at claims of ill treatment against a Taiwanese tourist.
You Ya Chien said in a social media post she was mistreated by immigration officials, forced to hand over her passport and mobile phone and officials tried to extort money from her.
In the viral post she said she was also held for 35 hours.
"This individual is making up stories and she has made this issue into a personal issue," Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali told the Straits Times.
Mustafar said all standard operating procedures were followed including surrendering two mobile phones as per Not to Land (NTL) regulations.
She was denied entry into Malaysia due to a damaged passport.
Referring to the lengthy wait in detention, Mustafar said that was unavoidable due to no available flights back to Taiwan.
