Malaysian ticket agent facing US sanctions
The US has imposed sanctions on a Malaysia-based ticketing agent for having commercial links with blacklisted Iranian carrier Mahan Air.
The US Treasury Department accused Mahan Travel and Tourism of ‘conducting financial transactions on behalf of the airline.’
The sanctions would freeze all assets the agent may hold in the US, if any, and ban US citizens from doing business with it.
It is unclear whether this will have any impact, but shows the Trump administration’s willingness to punish companies which do not adhere to the US’ harsher anti-Iran policy.
The US revoked the Iran nuclear deal signed during the Obama administration amid strong criticism around the world.
KLM recently announced it will halt flights to Tehran in September citing ‘commercial reasons.’
