Malaysian tourism boss charged with corruption

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board director general Mirza Mohd Taiyab pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court today, to bribery involving dental treatment costing RM13,860 (US$4,170) from an advertising company director. Mirza was detained by the Anti Corruption Agency , according to national news agency Bernama.

He was charged with accepting dental treatment worth RM13,860 paid for by Zulhisyam Ayob, director of Perunding Pakar Media Sdn Bhd between Jan 17 2005 and July 26 2005.

At that time, Mirza was the deputy director-general of Tourism Malaysia.

A judge granted him bail of RM5,000 (US$1,500).
