Malta goes GaGa for Music Week

Sunday, 02 Jun, 2009 0

The Mediterranean island of Malta goes GaGa again this summer with the return of Malta Music Week from 3 – 8 July. Following last year’s success, this six-day festival again welcomes Lady GaGa to Malta’s shores, alongside a bevy of other global stars from the Black Eyed Peas to Roger Sanchez. Performances are held across Malta’s best music venues and culminate in the free Isle of MTV concert in the town of Floriana on 8 July.

Malta’s outdoor clubbing Mecca, Gianpula, kicks off the party on Friday 3 July with international act ‘Ocean Drive featuring DJ Oriska’ headlining the party. Take the opportunity to see Ocean Drive perform their new single, ‘Some People’, which has clubbers across Europe running for the dance floor and is sure to be a summer sensation. Gianpula offers three outdoor dance floors perfect for dancing under the stars on hot Mediterranean summer nights. (Entrance ¤6.00)

Saturday 4 July sees Roger Sanchez heading the bill at Malta’s Popeye Village. The old movie set provides a dramatic backdrop for the American super-DJ’s hedonistic brand of progressive house. (Entrance ¤20.00)

After two serious dance parties, Sunday 5 July offers the perfect opportunity to unwind and relax. The Malta Chill-out Beach Party on the beautiful beach at Golden Bay offers up DJs playing the best lounge music – perfect for snoozing, sunbathing or simply watching the spectacular sunset. For the more active the beach provides plenty of water sports activities. (Entrance – Free)

Both Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July will be packed with live concerts throughout Malta’s popular towns and resorts, featuring the best of Malta’s talent.

Malta Music Week rises to a shuddering crescendo with the free Isle of MTV concert on 8 July. Black Eyed Peas, Lady GaGa, Metro Station and Esmée Denters are all performing as part of the star-studded line-up that looks to draw up to 50,000 concert-goers to Floriana’s spectacular Il-Fosos Square.

A number of tour operators are offering special packages for Malta Music Week including Chevron, Malta Direct, Belleair, Choice Holidays and Thomas Cook.
