Manchester flights have started to resume after runways were closed due to heavy overnight snowfall.

Some morning flights at Manchester Airport were delayed over two hours.

Temperatures dropped below -10C in parts of the country, the coldest of the year so far.

A level three cold weather alert was issued by the UK Health Security Agency.

“Following the temporary closure due to snow, we are pleased to report that operations have resumed,” the airport tweeted.

It urged passengers with Manchester flights to contact their airlines for updates before setting off for the airport.

The two runways closed at 06:20 GMT and reopened about two hours later.
