Marriott confirms another data breach

Sunday, 07 Jul, 2022 0

Marriott International has been hit by another data breach.

Hackers successfully got their hands on around 20GB of data after accessing a PC at the BWI Airport Marriott Hotel in Baltimore.

They ‘used social engineering to trick one associate into providing access to the computer, ’said Marriott spokesperson Melissa Froehlich Flood.

Hackers tried to extort the hotel but no money was paid, she said.

Marriott’s claims accessed information ‘primarily contained non-sensitive internal business files’ but reports suggest it did include some credit card information.

Marriott said it would be informing up to 400 people about the data breach.

The company has been affected by a number of major hacks in recent years.

A data breach in 2020 compromised the personal information of five million guests.
