Massive search after witness reports man overboard on Dover-Calais ferry
A massive search took place in the English Channel yesterday after witnesses reported seeing someone go overboard from a P&O ferry.
A helicopter was scrambled and joined four lifeboats, a tug boat and two P&O ferries in the search after the incident was reported in the early hours of Thursday.
A witness said they saw someone go overboard from the Pride of Kent ferry about six miles off the coast of Dover at about 01:30.
The HM Coastguard initially said it was searching for a missing woman but later said all crew and passengers had been ‘accounted for safe and well’ on arrival in Calais.
"Unless any new information comes to light, the search has been stood down," said a spokeswoman for the HM Coastguard.
A spokesman for P&O Ferries confirmed that passengers disembarked at 5.30am.
"French police are interviewing the passenger who raised the alarm," he added.
