Masterclass to focus on food: mainstreaming sustainability: all inclusives
Next weeks Sustainable Tourism Masterclass will highlight good food and good tourism
This year’s Sustainable Tourism Masterclass will be held at Number One Aldwych: London: 16th September 2011
The masterclass subjects will include: Food and wine leveraging tourism benefits: Economic benefits of sustainable accommodation: Carbon market money and tourism: Ecommerce and emerging source markets: Tourism as a key driver to the green economy: Dropping the niche eco-warrior tag and engaging the mass market:
Apart from these subjects participants will discuss the following questions:
Can all-inclusives be sustainable? Is wellness tourism an unsustainable fad? What will the effect of the global recession be on tourism? Is social network marketing as effective for the users as it is for the providers? What is the Airbnb phenomenon?
Speakers and sessions currently include:
- Mark Sainsbury of the world famous Moro restaurant http://www.moro.co.uk and Zetter Hotel http://www.thezetter.com/ , and Mark Linehan of the immensely successful Sustainable Restaurants Association http://www.thesra.org/ will talk about: “The story of sustainability in food and wine, tourism and hospitality and
- John Brennan CEO and Sean Twohig Sustainability Manager of the 100% green gold starred Jurys Inn, http://www.jurysinns.com will talk about “The economic benefits of sustainable hospitality and the long term impacts of a sustainable approach”
- There will be group discussions and it is hoped that Shaun Mann of the TOURISM Investment Climate, World Bank Group will join by video link from Washington to give a brief overview of work on destination hotel economic/social/cultural footprints.
- Professor Stefan Gossling, contributing author to the 4AR of the IPCC and world authority on tourism and climate change will talk about “How emissions will affect our vision of the travel and tourism future”
- And Roy Graff completes the line-up . http://www.roygraff.com/ Roy specializes in ecommerce and emerging source markets such as the BRIC countries and will talk from his wide knowledge of sustainability and growing demand from emerging markets the role of technology in bypassing traditional intermediaries .
So that all the important subjects packed into the day can be dealt with fully and satisfactorily and leave time for discussions and networking, the 12 hour intensive masterclass will include lunch, supper, and pre and post event information.
