Resort developer Bob Trotta has unveiled plans for an ambitious Vegas-style integrated casino resort for Montego Bay.
Provisionally named Celebration Jamaica Hotel & Resort, work will start as early as the summer, subject to the granting of permits, the developer said.
Trotta announced the plans with his advisory team, including former Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson and tourism and gaming industry expert Edward McMullen.
The resort will be a year-round entertainment complex with a full-service casino offering table gaming and slot machines.
First phase construction will create 1,000 hotel rooms, bars, restaurants, a health club and spa.
"The estimated development cost of $450 million for the first phase will provide more than 2,000 jobs for local Jamaicans and millions of dollars in tax revenue for the government," said Trotta, adding that a marina and water complex are also being planned for the project.
Mayor of Montego Bay Glendon Harris has backed the project and believes it will have a positive impact on tourism and job creation in the area.
The Celebration Jamaica board of advisers are currently appraising proposals for the casino operator and primary construction company, although Trotta declined to reveal more details until deals were confirmed.
