Melbourne secures new Auckland flights
Taiwan’s China Airlines will soon offer Melbourne travelers another option to fly across the Tasman.
From early December China Airlines will fly between Melbourne and Auckland on Airbus A350 jets featuring lie-flat premium business class seats, premium economy and full-service economy.
The Auckland flights will operate as a seasonal extension of China Airlines’ flights from Taipei to Melbourne.
The new flights will add more than 3,000 seats a week on the trans-Tasman route
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said the new service would increase competition and help bring down fares.
“Having a fourth airline on this important route is fantastic news for travellers,” he said.
“The launch of this new service will coincide with the start of the December school holidays meaning hundreds more seats are available just when families need them most.”
Melbourne Airport saw over 820,000 international passengers in May, up 11% year-on-year.
The Auckland flights will operate five days a week.
