New York’s Met Museum posted an all-time high 7.35 million visitors during the last fiscal year.
It is the highest attendance ever despite the Met bringing in a mandatory entrance fee for out of state visitors for the first time.
Four months ago the Met introduced a $25 entrance fee for non New York state residents, replacing the suggested ‘pay what you can’ fee.
The attendance figures cover the fiscal year ending June 30 for the Met Fifth Avenue, the Met Cloisters and the Met Breuer.
The record figures are attributed in part to the highly successful Michelangelo exhibition from November 2017 to February 2018, which attracted more than 700,000.
It is the tenth-highest attended exhibition in the Met’s history.
