Miami Beach is done with spring breakers.
A new ‘break up’ video is making waves showing Miami locals ready to move on from raucous spring break crowd.
The message is: “This isn’t working anymore. And it’s not us, it’s you.”
“You guys want to get drunk in public, and ignore laws.”
Last year’s spring break season seems to have been a tipping point.
Miami Beach Police reported two fatal shootings, almost 500 arrests, 105 firearms seized and 7,000 traffic citations.
In 2021 there were over 1,000 arrests during spring break which led to a curfew.
Miami Beach has announced a number of new restrictions this year to alleviate overcrowding and potential flashpoints.
There will be strict parking restrictions, road checkpoints, and bag searches.at beaches.
Beaches will close earlier and outdoor dining will be restricted.
At weekends in March, beach access will be limited to 5th, 10th and 12th Streets, and will close at 6 p.m.
“We’ve put in robust measures this year, more than we’ve ever done, policy-wise, and also the law enforcement presence is going to be very large,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner.
Any illegal short-term rentals could be fined from $1,000 to $5,000 a day.
