Monarch adds extra seats in peak week

Friday, 6 August 20103 min read

Monarch is adding 22 extra flights to and from Spain and the Spanish Islands due to a surge in demand.

The airline is operating additional flights from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester to Malaga, Alicante and Majorca during the last week of the school holidays this year.

The move will bring an additional 4,000 seats into the market.

It has also introduced extra services from Manchester to Gibraltar on Sundays between 12 September and 31 October, and from Luton to Gibraltar between 24 September and 29 October, bringing the total number of weekly services between the UK and Gibraltar to 12.

“At the start of the year we believed that demand for this summer would lie in our Eastern Med destinations such as Turkey and Cyprus,” said MD Tim Jeans.

“As the pound has strengthened against the euro however, we’ve also seen a huge surge in demand for flights to our core Western Med destinations, particularly those in Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and the Spanish Islands.”

He said Monarch has already recorded its highest ever passenger numbers for July, coupled with their highest load factor ever.
