Monarch Group has refused to comment on reports it has secured a takeover deal.
A report in the The Sunday Times claims investment fund Greybull is the favourite to take over the airline group.
The report said the move would secure 3,000 jobs.
A spokeswoman for Monarch said the group was not commenting on speculation.
Further details are due expected to be announced within the next few days.
