More bad news for holidaymakers jetting off from London Gatwick

Nearly 1,000 workers are set to go on an airport strike from late July.

Unite says it relates to baggage handling and check-in staff.

There are employed by contractors ASC, Menzies Aviation, GGS and DHL Services.

It comes after easyJet pre-emptively cancelled 1,700 summer flights, mostly to and from Gatwick.

The planned airport strike begins on 28 July through 1 August.

A second stoppage would run from 4-8 August.

“Our members at Gatwick undertake demanding roles and are essential to keeping the airport and airlines working, “ Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham said.

“Yet their employers somehow think it is acceptable to pay them a pittance.”

The union has been in pay talks with the companies since January.

Unite says the airport strike could affect the operations of British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair, TUI, Westjet and Wizz Air.
