Muhammad Ali Jr., the son of the late boxing legend, said he was held up for the second time in a month at an airport, reportedly over his ‘Arabic-sounding name.’
Ali’s lawyer told the media he was held up at Washington’s Reagan National Airport after speaking at a meeting organized by Democratic lawmakers to discuss racial profiling and the government’s immigration policy.
The forum was called ‘Ali v. Trump: The Fight for American Values.’
Lawyer Chris Mancini believes it is ‘quite obvious’ Ali is now being targeted.
He has ‘now been put on a different status,’ Mancini said.
”Going to Washington obviously opened up a can of worms at DHS.”
A month ago Ali was stopped by Customs and Border Protection officers at Fort Lauderdale airport after arriving from Jamaica.
He was held and repeatedly asked about his religious beliefs, Ali said.
In the latest incident Mancini said Ali ‘was flagged’ when attempting to get his boarding pass from a JetBlue ticket desk and spent more than 20 minutes on the phone with an official at the Department of Homeland Security to verify his identity.
