Multi-generation demands sees Christmas bookings double week-on-week, says Teletext
Teletext Holidays is reporting a 97% week-on-week increase in bookings for the Christmas period, with the Canaries the top selling destination – despite the fact the islands are still on the UK quarantine list.
Teletext also reports an overall 164% increase in passengers and a 26% increase in average party size, with more multi-generational family parties as people decide to travel abroad for Christmas week.
The data relates to bookings taken during the second week in September, during which the government announced the ‘rule of six’ would come into effect for UK households on September 14.
Wayne Perks, MD of Teletext Holidays, said: "Looking at the booking data, we can see a definite trend of people gearing up for a big family Christmas in the sun, with several generations planning to travel abroad together, since the ‘rule of six’ was announced.
"The most popular Christmas destinations for our customers are currently the Canary Islands, followed by Egypt, Malta and Dubai.
"We are surprised by the surge in bookings, which came since the announcement, and despite current FCO advice, people are obviously hoping that more travel corridors will soon open, and in particular there seems to be a real appetite for people to spend some quality time with their extended family, whilst enjoying the warmer weather."
