MyTravel Airways looks to cut staff by 25%

Saturday, 27 Jul, 2004 0

MyTravel Airways has entered into talks with up to 540 staff following a decision to cut its fleet by a third.

The troubled travel group has proposed the withdrawal of nine of its 30 aircraft. A spokesman for MyTravel told TravelMole: “This is in line with our strategy to cut our cost base in the UK and enable us to manage capacity in line with the market.”

Contrary to other reports, only MyTravel Airways staff are involved in the three-month consultation period. Up to 540 staff could be affected – about 4% of the total UK workforce of 15,000, and 25% of the MyTravel Airways workforce.

The decision does not affect the company’s summer schedule. It is likely to take effect in November for the winter schedule. It is not known yet which routes will be affected.
