MyTravel to increase proportion of seat-only sales
MyTravel has denied that it is to set up a no-frills airline, following what it claims is a misleading report in The Guardian newspaper yesterday, but has confirmed that it is to increase its amount of seat-only sales.
A spokeswoman said: “We are not going to be forming a new airline or investing in a new fleet. What we will be doing in the future is using the capacity on flights that we haven’t sold for flights only. We want to be more flexible which is good news for the consumer.”
Instead she said MyTravel would be changing the way its seat-only product was marketed and making its charter airline more flexible. The spokeswoman denied that the plans were being drawn up because a downturn in the number of people buying package holidays meant MyTravel had to look at other ways of filling its planes: “It’s not that at all. Our planes are going out almost full but it makes sense to send them out completely full.”
