Nationwide protests across India lead to GoAir flight cancellations
GoAir is warning of further disruption after cancelling numerous flights on Monday due to lack of available aircraft and crew members.
Blaming protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across India, GoAir cancelled 18 flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Patna and Indore.
"The cancellations have come as the airline is facing both aircraft and crew problems," it said.
GoAir also cited ‘inclement weather and low visibility’ for impacting flights.
"Alternate flight arrangements are being explored to minimise the impact. Free cancellation and re-booking options have been offered to all those affected," an airline spokesperson said.
Airline operations have also been impacted over engine issues on its Airbus A320neo fleet, with the latest incident forcing a plane to return to Mumbai.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will conduct a thorough investigation of the ‘technical glitch’ and plans to beef up inspections of planes with the affected Pratt and Whitley engines.
There have been more than 100 P & W engine shutdowns in India over several months, including on planes operated by IndiGo.
