NCL adds youth environmental awareness scheme
An environmental programme has been started by Norwegian Cruise Line to complement onboard youth activities already available.
It has been designed to educate young people about the importance of clean water and the effects of marine pollution and ways to prevent it.
The ‘Officer Snook Water Pollution Programme’ was launched in association with the Youth Environmental Programs on board Norwegian Jewel in November and will be offered on all NCL and NCL America ships in 2006.
Elements of the programme are to be incorporated into the NCL Kid’s Crew and will include activities for children of all ages. For those aged two to five there will be an Undersea Hospital, story-telling, colouring books and games; for pre-teens there will be crafts, a simulated ‘Beach Clean Up’ activity, a ‘Catch or Release’ game identifying endangered species and an environmental poster contest.
The line’s UK general manager Francis Riley said: “NCL is committed to the environment and to the oceans and this is a fun way for our young guests to learn about the importance of the ocean and its protection. This is a programme unique to the cruise industry and we are proud to be a partner promoting this important initiative.”
