NCL removes single-use plastic bottles from all ships

Norwegian Cruise Line kicks off the New Year having officially ditched all single-use plastic bottles across its fleet.

NCL’s 17-ship fleet is now free of the single use plastic bottles, which it claims is an industry first.

Instead, it is using bottles from JUST Goods, Inc which use 82% renewable materials.

"While this is just the beginning of what we and others can do, we are incredibly committed to our Sail & Sustain program and believe wholeheartedly in the importance of preserving our natural resources," said new CEO Harry Sommer.

It will replace more than six million single-use plastic water bottles every year.

Norwegian says it plans to continue reducing unnecessary waste by eliminating plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles later this year.

NCL’s Sail & Sustain environmental program will help minimize its landfill waste and reduce CO2 emissions by investing in cleaner tech.

A year ago NCL removed all single-use plastic straws across its fleet of ships and private destinations.
