Nearly 10k raised for trust set up in memory of murdered travel apprentice
Nearly £10,000 has been raised by 20 Co-op stores in memory of teenage sweethearts Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry who were tragically killed in the Manchester bomb attack.
Chloe, a travel apprentice with Westoe Travel in South Shields, and her boyfriend Liam (pictured here) were among 22 people killed at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in May 2017.
A cheque for £9,935 has been presented to the Together Forever Trust that was set up by their families in their memory.
The trust helps youngsters to follow their dreams and achieve their goals by paying for auditions, exams, coaching qualifications, and travel expenses.
Since it launched the trust has given out more than £250,000 in bursaries and helped over 100 young people.
Staff at various Co-op shops, including Mortimer Road in South Shields, Hylton Castle, and North Moor Road and Broadway in Sunderland, raised cash during 2019 through tombolas, raffles, cake stalls and bucket shakes.
Co-op area manager, Michael Boucher, told the Sunderland Echo: "They have shown immense spirit and generosity in raising such a great amount of money. We are delighted to honour the memory of Chloe and Liam and remain in awe of their families who have managed to do something so positive in the face of such heartbreak."
