New boss for Cendant TDS – name changed to Travelport
Jeff Clarke, formerly head of software firm Computer Associates (CA), has been named CEO and president of Cendant Travel Distribution Services.
At the same time the company is to change its name to Travelport.
Explaining the name change, TDS chairman Gordon Bethune said: “Taking on the Travelport name offers us an opportunity to create a strong and unifying brand identity for the distinct travel businesses that comprise the company. It also allows us the opportunity to leverage the brand equity that already exists in the Travelport name and identifies our company as the destination for travel bookings.
“Travelport will continue to focus on transforming the travel experience by improving operating systems and employing a more customer-focused approach.”
The divison will continue to be referred to as TDS until early summer when a new logo and complete brand identity are unveiled.
Announcing Clarke’s appointment, Cendant chairman and CEO Henry Silverman described him as a “rising star” in the technology sector for many years.
Clarke, who was formerly head of global operations at Hewlett-Packard following its merger with Compaq Computer, said: “TDS, with its leading brands such as Orbitz, Galileo and GTA is ideally positioned to experience considerable growth in the months and years ahead.”
